Weight Loss

I have been attending Weight Watchers since the end of June along with working out at Planet Fitness and becoming an avid watcher of The Biggest Looser. I have lost 40 pounds......really doesn't sound like much since I need to loose 80 more pounds.....But...it's a beginning. It's a new beginning to the rest of my life as a happy healthy 54 year old mother of 5, step mom to 5 more, grandma to 7, and wife to my husband, George.

Over the past few months I have learned so much about nutrition and taking better care of myself, while also learning about how I reached 274 pounds on my 5'9" body. Perhaps my story and my experiences will help others..maybe not...it really doesn't matter. It's my time now. It's my healing that I care about for now. The babies are gone from my bosom, a husband divorced me for being too fat ( at the time 140 pounds..ha ha), another husband died from a stroke (perhaps he would have gained from my new found knowledge)...and yet another husband sits on the cusp of a stroke or heart attack at 315 pounds. Perhaps my story will help him..before I am left a widow once again. As of yet..I am speaking to deaf ears. But mine are not...I am open to all the knowledge I can gain from every book, program, anything that my body and heart tells me that makes sense and works for me.

I am determined to lose my excess weight so that I can run with my children in races...not that I could win. I'll leave the winning part to my son, Sean Burris and daughter in law, Barbara Parker. Sean and Barbara are champion runners that ran for FSU. Barbara ran in the last
Olympics in Beijing. My other children are also excellent runners. My daugher, Morgan Amick is a beautiful young mother and high school teacher, runs with her husband, Micaiah. My daughter, Haley is a beautiful 5'8" red headed CNA. She should have been a dancer....but she is also a runner. My son, Cameron is a Fire-Medic for Brevard County...what a hunk! My youngest, is my daughter, Taylor. Taylor is a great muscian and has also promised to run with me in a 5 k in February. Yes, that is my goal. I am going to run in the Eddison race in Ft Myers, Florida in February. I will not win....but I want to be in it with all of my children. I made the commitment to myself last February as I sat on the side lines watching my children run by one by one...I wanted to be with them....well...next year I will be.

At this point in my progress, I am walking 3.2 miles 5 days a week and working out with weights 3 times a week. My average weekly weightloss has been 2-3 pounds a week. I consider that a healthy loss. I want it to stay off. I am making permanent changes in my lifestyle. That is what will work for me. That is what has been working for me for the last 17 weeks.
